Professional Biography:
Mike Carpenter is an experienced trial lawyer who is widely regarded as one of the country’s leading litigators. Over the years, he has tried cases and represented clients throughout Ohio and in some 32 other states. In the process, he has earned recognition as one of the Best Lawyers In America in three areas: Bet-the-Company Litigation, Commercial Litigation and Personal Injury Litigation; he is an Ohio Super Lawyer; and he is a Chambers U.S.A. designee in commercial litigation. Most recently, he was named one of the country’s 500 leading litigators by Lawdragon.com, joining just seven other Ohio lawyers on that list.
Among the cases he has handled are multi-stage dealer marketing class and individual actions for automobile manufacturers, numerous banking and consumer lending matters, ERISA/pension litigation, numerous takeover suits, securities cases, automobile products liability actions, minority shareholder disputes, joint venture disputes, and First Amendment media cases. He also has enjoyed serving as counsel to coaches of major sports at Ohio State.
Among these representations, Mike was asked to serve as national coordinating counsel for five years for a major automobile manufacturer in the area of "passive restraint" litigation, to defend class action and individual cases involving national marketing programs, and to handle the defense of numerous class action cases arising from security deposit interest claims in automobile leases. Mike also served as lead counsel in a series of consumer class action suits pending in various states involving consumer fraud, recall, and no-injury economic loss claims. In addition to a variety of pending commercial disputes throughout Ohio and beyond, he also recently defeated a class in a multi-party toxic tort/environmental suit.
Mike has served on various boards of organizations, such as The American Heart Association and The Columbus Academy, and currently sits on the National Alumni Council of The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. He and his wife have been active supporters and leaders in numerous community charitable fundraising efforts, in addition to being the parents of three children.
